Dont press the reset button
.....on your internet router, unless you know all the details of your account.
Pressing the reset button erases all router settings and returns it to "out of the box" state. In order to use the internet again you will have to but back in the ADSL account login and password, and any other settings that are needed by your ISP.
Last week a call from a new customer highlighted the dangers. Having some trouble with their broadband connection, the customer had pressed the reset button on the router. The service was originally set up a long time ago and the original Welcome letter could not be found. The ISP was incapable of providing the login details or resetting the account. The result (so far) is 5 days without internet access and no sign of the issue being resolved any time soon.
If you are having issues with your broadband, you may usually be asked by your ISP to restart your computer and reset your router. By "reset your router" they mean remove the power to it for about 30 seconds, and then power it up again. This process will not lose any of your settings, unless perhaps the router is faulty.
