SBS 2011 Migration Fails
Migration to Microsoft Small Business Server 2011 (SBS 2011) can fail at an early stage with the error message "Cannot Connect to the Domain". A further message says "Verify that the domain name and log on credentials are correct, and then try again".
This situation can occur even though the domain account credentials are correct. This can be demonstrated by opening a command prompt on the destination server (<Shift><F10.>) and mapping a drive to the source server using the same credentials. If this can be done successfully, it is proved that the error message is wrong.
Double-check the system time on the destination server. Firstly, boot the system to BIOS and ensure date and time are correct in the system BIOS. Then ensure that the Windows date and time are correct, and using the correct time zone, at the screen that appears at the start of the migration process. It seems that the installation may somehow in some circumstances use the system BIOS time rather than the time that is shown through Windows.
